Lore

As the shadow of the Roman Empire fades, Britain stands on the brink of chaos. It is the year 450 AD, a time when the old gods clash with the rise of Christianity, and the echoes of Rome's once-great legacy are drowned by the thunder of war drums. From the ashes of the crumbling empire, a young leader named Arthur emerges, determined to unite a fractured land and preserve the dream of a civilized Britain.

The isle is a battleground where ambition and faith collide. Arthur, loyal to the ideals of Rome, leads the Roman Britons, a faction clinging to the remnants of order amidst the Saxon invasion. Across the land, eight powerful factions vie for dominance:

  • The Midland Celts, led by Arthur's bitter rival Dumnorix, the White Dragon, whose Iron Vale Clan seeks to reclaim Britain for its ancient ways.
  • The Cornwall Boars, under the cunning Duke Gorlois, ignite civil war in their bid to seize the crown.
  • The Saxon Bears, a pragmatic yet formidable foe, seek refuge and dominion in a foreign land, struggling between their pagan roots and their growing embrace of Christianity.
  • The savage Pictish Wolves, relentless raiders from the north, fight to carve out their territory.
  • The ambitious Northumbrian Lions, locked in a precarious position between diplomacy and brute strength.
  • The chaotic Danish Horde, whose goal is not conquest but annihilation, leaving only ruin in their wake.
  • The opportunistic Frankish Gauls, seeking to expand their influence beyond the Channel.

The tension is not merely political or territorial; it is spiritual. The druids of old whisper of a dwindling connection to their gods, while Christian missionaries spread their faith like wildfire. As alliances form and shatter, the fate of Britain will hinge on not only the strength of armies but also the cunning of leaders and the conviction of their beliefs.

Heroes & Families

At the center of this maelstrom stand the legendary figures who shape history. Arthur, the Riothamus, is flanked by his loyal generals:

  • Gwin, a fierce warrior whose cunning rivals her skill with a blade.
  • Ghilleadh, the stoic sentinel who carries the weight of centuries-old traditions.
  • Bedwyr, Arthur's trusted sword-brother and unyielding defender.
  • Sagramore, a fiery knight of unmatched resolve.
  • Clothar, a strategist whose sharp mind is a match for the mightiest armies.

Yet Arthur's rise is not uncontested. Dumnorix, the charismatic leader of the Midland Celts, represents a fierce challenge to his rule, claiming to champion the true spirit of Britain.

The ancient Roman families, the Gens Valeria, Gens Claudia, Gens Fabia, and others, remain power players in the shadows, their influence shaping the politics of Arthur's court. Their loyalties are divided, their agendas murky—some seek to restore the glory of Rome, while others see an opportunity to carve out their own legacy.

Magic & Mystery

While grounded in history, Camelot: Sons of Rome is infused with the whispers of magic. In the hands of cunning minds like Merlyn, “magic” manifests as science and innovation misunderstood by the masses. Alchemical creations, secret poisons, and fiery contraptions blur the line between myth and reality. It is an age where appearances deceive, and the legends of warlocks and druids are often fueled by ingenuity rather than sorcery.

From Orrin's Box, a collection of ancient "artifacts" with seemingly mystical powers, to the symbolic and deadly tools wielded by champions, the supernatural exists at the fringes of the natural world, inspiring awe and fear in equal measure.

A Land Divided

Britain is at a crossroads. Will Arthur succeed in uniting the isles under one banner, forging a kingdom that balances Rome's legacy with Britain's soul? Or will rival factions tear the land apart, plunging it into an age of ruin? The fate of the isle lies in your hands. Will you lead with diplomacy and faith, or will your ambitions be written in blood and fire?

The battle for Britain has begun. Who will you become?
